How it works

From scattered folders to a searchable catalog

pview leaves your files where they are. It builds a fast local index, generates preview assets beside the app data, and gives you one place to browse, curate, and launch videos.

01

Point pview at your folders

Add local drives, external disks, or mounted network folders. Scanning runs in the background while the gallery fills in.

02

Skim before you open

Each video gets thumbnails, metadata, and a filmstrip preview so you can identify content from the grid without launching a player.

03

Curate the library

Search, tag, rate, rename display titles, build playlists, and review duplicate candidates without changing the original files.

04

Play it your way

Open a single video, launch Manual Tiles, reshuffle Random Viewing layouts, or sync metadata from your local media server.

What it does

Everything you need to manage a huge collection

Built for libraries that have outgrown folders. Fast, local, and private by design.

Instant search across your entire library

Once your folders are indexed, SQLite-backed search, filters, ratings, and custom metadata help you find videos without scanning files again.

Filmstrip previews without opening a file

Hover a card and scrub through a visual preview for each video, without launching a player.

Smart deduplication

Conservative duplicate groups, side-by-side comparison, and explicit delete confirmation before anything is removed.

Manual Tiles and Random Viewing

Launch tiled player layouts across one or more displays for review, background viewing, or fast curation sessions.

Self-hosted network sync

Run pview-server on a NAS and browse the same catalog from any computer on your LAN. Read-only viewer mode — nothing leaves your network.

Automatic intro skipping

Detects and remembers each creator's opening sequence, so every video starts at the content.

Private library mode

One keystroke blurs thumbnails and filenames for screen-sharing. Optional password lock at launch and after inactivity.

Works with your setup

Enrich your library from a media server

If you run a compatible local media server (such as Stash), pview can sync its catalog and enrich your local library with creator, cast, and tag metadata matched by file hash. Ratings and tags can optionally write back to the server.

Everything stays on your LAN. See Settings → Media Server Sync.

  • Matched by file hash — exact, decode-free, no re-encoding.
  • Read-only by default — write-back is opt-in, per field.
  • Never leaves your network — direct LAN connection only.
